Andy Suzuki has been singing since before he could walk. Born to an American/Jewish mother and a Japanese father, he was exposed to a world of sounds from an early age. He spent much of his childhood singing in different languages. This cultural diversity and growing up in the melting pot of Washington, DC gave him the unique perspective from which he writes and plays music. When he was a freshman in high school, his father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. As he went through high school and started at Brown University, he turned to music as an outlet. At Brown, he met his writing partner and hand percussionist, Kozza Babumba, the grandson of Grammy Award-winning Nigerian percussionist Babatunde Olatunji. Andy Suzuki & The Method was born. With the release of his album Born out of Mischief Andy’s career and fan base have grown tremendously. In the past two years, Andy Suzuki & The Method has toured with Ringo Starr, Joshua Radin, and Marc Broussard, as well as participated in many notable festivals and events across the country. Carl Van Horn is Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and the founding Director of the John J. However, we live in a world where we are also taught to evaluate the many aspects of our life. The following thoughts are quite common: “How am I doing?”, “Am I smart enough?”, “Do I have enough friends?, “Is my house big, or nice enough?”. Our society measures life qualities: personal characteristics, monetary status and happiness level by comparing ourselves against others. This social comparing has very little benefit, and the damage that can come from these comparisons over time becomes dangerous to our future thoughts and opportunities. The comparisons you make to others are not fair assessments. This is simply your perception of others. The only true model of which you should compare, is you. The word “enough” contributes to the internal mental dialogue, and in many ways and is not particularly helpful. Other than her involvement with the non-profit PUREYouth, Sanjana is a varsity tennis player, plays double bass, volunteers at RWJ hospital, and is a Girl Scout working on her gold award, so volunteering has always been a part of her life. With the assistance of PURE, Sanjana is able to work with schools all over the world in makings sure that they get the assistance that they need. About two years ago, Sanjana and her mom started a branch and through this, she has spent countless hours fundraising and spreading awareness for schools in many countries, including rural schools in south India and inner-city schools in North America. After funding and witnessing the success of various dining halls, online facilities, libraries, and other supplies, it inspired her. How could a small group of teenagers in New Jersey change the lives of countless others?
